What is this statement and what does it cover?

This statement explains what information we gather when you visit the Transplant.TV website (the “Website”) and informs you how this information is used and protected.

This privacy policy, and the ways in which personal data may be gathered and processed via this Website, are subject to review and development and any such changes will only be notified by this page.

Regularly reviewing this page ensures you are always aware of the information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we will share it with other parties.

What data are collected?

Non- personal data:

It is standard practice for webservers to collect data automatically about all requests for files (web pages, images, videos etc).

This Website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer, to help the Website analyse how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the Website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the Website, compiling reports on Website activity for Website operators and providing other services relating to Website activity and internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google.

By using this Website, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above. Other third parties may also collect non-personal data such as the number of times that a video is watched and the anonymous use of the Website by visitors.

What about cookies?

Cookies are (as referred to above) small text files stored on your computer. They relate to a specific site, and can be used to enhance that site’s functionality and your interaction with it; they may also be used for usage tracking, research, targeting, etc.

You can control the use of cookies on your computer by adjusting your web browser preferences, choosing to allow them, block them, only allow them from selected sites or only allow certain types of cookies. Restricting cookies for a site may however interfere with some of the functionality of that site.

What do we do with the data?

Data relating to webserver requests is used for completion of the current activity (eg a request to view a web page), and are subsequently stored in log files, which are subsequently processed to provide statistical information about usage, load on servers, traffic patterns, troubleshooting, incident investigation, etc. Analysis of web usage may be used for: systems and performance monitoring; research; marketing (eg analysis of demographic information and user behaviour).

Information gathered will not be used to contact users, except where consent has been explicitly given, where a user has completed the Site Feedback form or where security incidents are under investigation.

Personal Data:

In addition to anonymous data collected automatically by the webservers, some of our pages request additional information; for instance, the Site Feedback form asks for contact and other details.

Where you provide details to us, we (Transplant.TV) will act as data controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1989 and will use the information you provide to us for the purpose of answering your query. Except where you have either given us your consent (including, for instance, to receive regular up-dates concerning the Website) or have asked us a question, we do not contact users of the Website and do not pass your personal data on to any third parties (other than, where appropriate, our own trusted third party providers (including Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.) to enable them to assist with the response to any query and to ensure the proper operation of the Website). We may pass your data on to a successor of Transplant.TV in the event that ownership of the Website is assigned, but will not retain your data for longer than is reasonably necessary to answer your query.
